Activity

Watch the Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning video 1.2 (video opens in new window/tab) from infant/toddler modules (mother plus baby with red pompom) and reflect on the following questions:

  1. What behavior did you observe in the infant?
  2. What behaviors specifically did you see that related to:
    • Social health?
    • Emotional health and regulation?
    • Exploring and learning?

Take time to carefully observe and document social and emotional behaviors in young infants and share what you see and hear with the infant's caregivers, this helps them learn what to look for. "Ms. Williams when you held the pom pom and moved it, did you see how Jaden followed it with his eyes? He is tracking your movements. He is engaged. His feet were on your leg and his body was relaxed, he must feel safe with you."
